50 Years of SEGAS

In 1947 the Hellenic Association of Amateur Athletics celebrated its 50th anniversary. During that whole year there were events highlighting the Association's contribution. The Board of Directors decided to present awards to the Minister of Education, the founding clubs, the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the Greek Olympic champions and distinguished athletes, coaches, foreign Federations which had helped the cause of Greek athletics and prominent foreign friends of athletics. On 4 May 1947, everyone involved in sport in Greece attended the event organised by SEGAS. During this event, the minutes of the session which proposed the foundation of SEAGS on 20 February 1895 were read. It is worth listing at this point the founding clubs which on 8 January 1897 decided to form SEAGS.
